Wikiseum
About the building
Wikiseum is a walkable museum of the world's most famous works of art, built from Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons. The collection is chosen by how widely each work is known: how many languages of Wikipedia describe it, and how many people read about it. Works hang at their true size, in rooms grouped by period, movement and artist, and the spoken guide answers from each work's Wikipedia article.
Only images in the public domain are shown. Famous works still in copyright appear as empty frames with their label, and the guide can still tell you about them.
Wikiseum is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the Wikimedia Foundation. Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons are trademarks of the Wikimedia Foundation.
Privacy
There are no accounts and no sign-in. We do not know who you are.
- Other visitors. While you walk, your position and the direction you face are sent to the room's server about ten times a second so other people in the room can see a silhouette with a generated name. Nothing is stored once you leave the room. You can turn this off under Controls.
- Questions to the guide. The text of a question is sent to an AI model to produce an answer. Answers are cached by question so the same question is not asked twice. Questions are not linked to you.
- Rate limits. Your IP address is used transiently to limit how many questions and connections a single network can make. It is not stored.
- Local storage. Your control preferences (scroll to walk, inverted look, show other visitors) are kept in your browser only.
- Analytics. Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and no cross-site tracking, may be used to count visits.
Hosted on Cloudflare. Requests pass through Cloudflare's network, which keeps its own short-lived logs.
Terms
Wikiseum is offered as it is, for free, for learning and enjoyment. The guide's answers are generated by software from Wikipedia articles and can be wrong; check anything that matters against the linked article. Be considerate of other visitors: there is no chat by design, and we may pause the shared presence feature at any time. We may change or withdraw the museum at any time.
Credits and licences
Wall labels, guide scripts and answers are adapted from English Wikipedia articles, which are available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence. Our adapted texts carry the same licence. Each label links to the article it was adapted from.
Images come from Wikimedia Commons. Each is a reproduction of a work in the public domain; where the photograph itself carries a licence, it is shown with the work and listed below. Dimensions, dates and collections come from Wikidata (CC0).
